On Tuesday November 9th, Conservation Management students from Upper Iowa University conducted a successful burn of the Upper Iowa University Upper Prairie site.  The burn started at 3:15 pm and lasted until 4:45 pm.  The purpose of the burn was to try and control invasive plants such as wild sumac from establishing on the prairie and allow native species of prairie plants to continue to be established.

Conservation Management students Amy Holley and Dan Weber were on hand to control the burn

Conservation Management Students Brad Jensen and Landon Barnes have been working hard to establish the Upper Iowa University Zoological Specimen Collection.  Both students have done a great job obtaining animal specimens and preparing them as educational mounts for courses such as General Zoology, Ornithology, Mammalogy, and Wildlife Management to name a few.  Efforts will continue into the future to broaden the collection to include other species of wild animals.

Collection of tanned mammal hides include River Otter, Muskrat, Coyote, Badger and others

Mounted Bird Specimens Include Wild Turkey, Ring-necked Pheasant, Red-headed Woodpecker, Ruby-throated Hummingbird and others.
