Sheray Wallace, current student at the Upper Iowa University Madison Center majoring in psychology (criminal justice minor and social work training certificate), was recently presented with Madison Common Council’s ‘Civic Recognition Award’ for being an active leader in the Meadowood community suppers and serving on the Meadowood Housing and Safety Work Groups, and as a member of the Southwest Madison Community Organizers.
When accepting the award, Wallace thanked her professors at the UIU Madison Center for their unique and creative style of teaching. “They have inspired me to continue my education and empowered me to encourage others,” she said.
“I received my associate’s degree through Upper Iowa in March 2012,” she continued. “Now that I am working toward my bachelor’s degree, my coursework has empowered me to understand myself and others. With my degree, I plan to work with high-risk teens.”
