You might find something unusual in Mt. Horeb, WI the next time you’re driving through.

Yes, Mt. Horeb—the “Troll Capital of the World.” On 402 Main Street sits the “Wavin’ Walton,” a popular photo destination in the State of Wisconsin. The Wavin’ Walton sits outside of the Walton American Family Agency which is operated by Upper Iowa alums, Peter ’96 and Ellen ’95 Walton.

The statue is made out of white pine that was struck by lightning in Rio, WI and has been the focus of hundreds of family photos, holiday dress ups, and even a “Where am I?” contest hosted by the Madision Qdoba Restaurant chain.

Peter and Ellen were both nontraditional students at the UIU Madison Center and have been working with American Family Insurance since 1996 and have been at the Mt. Horeb location since 2003. They are both involved with the Mt. Horeb Rotary and are Proud Peacocks. If you’re passing by Mt. Horeb on Highway 18, stop on by and get your photo taken with the Wavin’ Walton–and let us see it!
