Well it seems like blogging is always on the VERY bottom of my list! Fall is very busy here at UIU with homecoming this week and classes in FULL swing. Students are busy designing, drawing and sculpting. Our first show is art educators of NE Iowa title Teaching and Learning. It is a great way to highlight the many amazing teachers we have here in NE Iowa. Our next show is Ghosts: A retrospective of watercolors by Ed Shay. www.edshay.com
We are also excited to begin show artwork in two new locations on campus. We have artwork by Jennah Smith and Daphnie Barnes going up in the writing center and a group of drawings by students that will be displayed at the student center. It will be great to show artwork on the “other side” of campus!

Don’t for get our first opening is going to be held on Saturday, September 17th at the Bing Davis Gallery.

The photo is of a few sculptures from last spring taking a rest on a nice September day/ waiting for the dump truck!

What happened to the fall! Winter at UIU is in full swing the students are back on campus and wha la we are kicking off spring 1! Seems like the 8 week terms go faster with every one that I do! Spring will be as busy as ever in Edgar. Sam Spiczka opens his show in the gallery on 1-13-11. His work will be an exciting mix to bring to UIU! Upstairs the computers are always in use in GD, Life drawing is being taught for the first time in a long time, and drawing class is in the late afternoon. Sarahh is busy teaching 20th ce for the first time and of course a full class in Art 100. In the depth’s of the basement of Edgar I am going to keep students busy in 3D with many different projects. It should be a fantastic term!

Well we are back from Fall break (granted a very small break) and we are gearing up for Fall Term II.  Finals week was a bit stressful and I apologize to all of my colleagues for setting off the fire alarms twice…but when the pots need to get out of the kiln they need to get out!  Besides it is always good to break up the day with something interesting.

It was great to have all of the students back in the building and ready to start another term.  The weather is getting chilly outside so the typically very warm Edgar Hall is feeling just right.

Take a last look at the Wadian / Lebin show because it is only up for two more weeks and then Colleen Toledano will grace us with her art and artist talk.  A sneak peak of  Colleen’s work can be seen at http://ctoledano.com/home.html

Have a great first week of classes.

Homecoming Weekend

We had a beautiful homecoming weekend here in Fayette.  The weather was perfect and the “Through the Lens” exhibition opening was a smashing success.  Scott Lebin and Jerry Wadian’s work was well received by the guests attending the Saturday reception in Edgar Fine Arts.

Now that the weekend is over students are busy preparing for finals this upcoming Thursday and Friday!  I know that I am ready for a 4-day weekend and students will also be very ready to have a small break before we gear up and start a new term.  This upcoming term Professor Siblik will be teaching Printmaking and 2D foundations.  Professor Scher will be teaching Art History II and Non Western Art, Professor McComb will be teaching Typography and Digital Illustration and I will be teaching Advanced Ceramics and Wheel throwing.

Have a great finals week and a wonderful fall break.

Here are some photos from UIU’s homecoming weekend.

Long hours this weekend taking down the Transcending the Figure show and installing the exhibit Through the Lens.  Nikki and Janelle worked very hard this weekend packaging work and getting the gallery ready for the new show.  They are now experts at setting up walls.

We also got to spend the Day with Scott Lebin (UIU “64″) and his wife Bobbie (UIU “64).  It was great working with Scott and Bobbie all day arranging the hanging artwork.  Becky Wadian also spent some of the afternoon arranging Jerry’s art work.  Jerry had to work this weekend shooting images of a Volleyball game for the West Union Paper.

Here are a few images from this weekend.
