Wow. I can’t believe that it’s been so long since I last posted. Sorry about that everyone! I didn’t expect last term to be as hectic as it was. This term I should have a lot more time to update you guys on what’s going on at UIU. As many of you know, Fall Term I ended a few weeks ago, and then we were able to take a break from classes for a few days during Fall Break. (My Fall Break included my best friend’s wedding, so it was a pretty good time for me!)
The new term means new classes, new schedules and new events. The Peacock Entertainment Crew has only had one event this term (This past Monday we bowled with frozen turkeys…a very interesting night), but more will soon follow. Next Monday, we have the Dynamic Duo coming to campus to entertain us. They are a pair of slam poets who specialize in comedy and raw emotion poetry. They are great guys with some great words to share. Make sure you check them out if you’re on campus next Monday, November 8th at 8 p.m.
If you read my blog last year, you know that by being a member of the Peacock Entertainment Crew, I get the opportunity to attend conferences to choose the performers for the following school year. This weekend (November 5-6), I will be traveling to Davenport, IA with three other PEC members and our advisor, for the regional Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA) conference. I will update you all about the conference and what we did there (and hopefully have some pictures to share) when we return.
Thank you for reading! Look for another post in a few days!!
Hey everyone!
I know it’s been a while since I posted last, and I want to apologize for that. I didn’t realize that this term was going to be so crazy! Everything is moving along so quickly and it’s hard to believe that the term is almost over.
The Peacock Entertainment Crew has been busy with all of the events so far this year. The first term is always the busiest time for us because we want to offer as many things to do as we can. We have had a few comedians and musicians as well as speakers come to campus this year, and we have a magician coming tomorrow night for Coronation.
Since this is Homecoming Week on campus, things have been especially hectic. There are activities every night of the week to allow students to show their school spirit, and this weekend there are multiple events planned for alumni. Here’s a brief rundown of the week’s events:
Sunday was the BTQ Fashion Show where the Homecoming Court was announced.
Monday was airbrush tattoos, sponsored by PEC.
Tuesday was Powderpuff Football.
Wednesday is Jell-O Wrestling.
Thursday is Coronation, also sponsored by PEC. This year, magician, Nate Staniforth will be performing, and afterwards we will crown this year’s Homecoming King and Queen.
Friday is the bonfire.
Saturday is the parade and football game.
There are other events going on throughout the week such as “Paint the Town” where clubs and orgs can paint windows of local businesses, and sidewalk chalk. If you’re on campus at all during the rest of this week be sure to check out some of the events!
Other than keeping busy with PEC and all of our events, I have been working on getting the Collegian up and running online. We are almost finished getting things ready, and hopefully I will be able to update you all with a link to the website in a few days!
I guess that’s it for now. I have to finish writing my research paper for Art History and put the finishing touches on my Advertising project! Wish me (and my fellow students) luck next week with finals! Thanks for reading!
Hello everyone!
I know it’s been a while since I last posted, and I apologize for that. It has been a crazy few weeks for me! It’s hard to believe that it’s midterms already! It’s all going by so fast. I keep thinking about what I will be doing a year from now. It’s crazy to think that in less than 8 months I will be graduating from college. Ahhh! I feel like I have so much left to do, but in reality, I really don’t. All that I really have to do is finish classes (some of which are beginning to get a little hard for me *cough* Art History *cough*) and make sure that all of you students are entertained by both the Peacock Entertainment Crew and the Collegian…I hope you guys are enjoying the performers that we’ve had come to campus!
Over the last few weeks I have been working on trying to get more students involved with both Peacock Entertainment Crew (PEC) and the Collegian. Both groups have been revamped for this school year, and I am excited to get more students involved. If you’re interested in getting involved, please let me know! You can also attend the PEC Meet and Greet TONIGHT at 8 in the Solarium, or attend a meeting on Mondays at 7 p.m. in the Solarium. The Collegian staff members meet at 6 p.m. every Tuesday, so feel free to attend one of those meetings too!
The Peacock Entertainment Crew has already hosted quite a few events this school year, including Salsa Magic, the Showoff Show, the Welcome Back Bash, and comedian Ronnie Jordan. Here are a few photos from these events:
We have a ton of other events coming up this year that I am incredibly excited for. Our next event is a leadership speaker next Monday, September 20 at 8 p.m. We also have a comedian, named Mike Winfield, coming on September 30. Aside from those, we have more comedians, magicians and musicians coming later this year!
Our biggest week of the year is coming up very soon. From October 3 through October 9, Upper Iowa will be celebrating Homecoming. Once again this year, I am a member of the Homecoming committee. We have a bunch of activities planned for alumni that will be on campus (but current students can attend some of these events as well), including a grand opening of two of the new buildings on campus. Aside from that, we have our usual Homecoming events such as the BTQ Fashion Show, Powder Puff Football, Jell-O Wrestling, Coronation, and the Parade. It will be a fun week, and I hope to see all of you out there at the events!
Thanks for checking out my blog! Remember to come back each week to see what I’m up to! Thanks!
Oh! And for those of you waiting to see the Collegian online, you’re going to have to wait a little bit longer. We’re working on getting things uploaded to the website for you guys! I’ll let you know when it’s live!
Hello all! I am very excited to have to opportunity to blog for you again this year! It’s going to be a crazy year, but I can’t wait for it! I am involved in so many amazing activities this year, and I can’t wait for everyone to see what we have planned. I will be updating once a week, so I hope that you’ll keep checking it out!
I have been lucky to be involved with student programming throughout most of my time at Upper Iowa (I joined partway through my freshman year). The group was previously called Student Activities Board (SAB), but we revamped and renamed the group this year, so we are now the Peacock Entertainment Crew (PEC). Being a member of this group allows me to attend conferences where I get to meet performers and choose what talent we bring to UIU. Last spring, along with three other students and our advisor, I attended a regional NACA (National Association of Campus Activities) conference to find performers to come to our school. We booked a wide variety of acts, which you will be hearing about throughout the school year.
Our first PEC event was this past Monday. For the third year in a row, we had Salsa Magic come. Students who attended the event got to learn, laugh, and bust some moves while they were taught various salsa dancing steps. Salsa Magic is one of my favorite events because it allows you to let loose and have fun with your new friends.
Next Monday (August 30), we have a comedy duo coming to perform for us. The duo is called the SHOWOFF Show. They do crazy circus stunts, stand-up comedy, tricks, and various other things to keep everyone entertained. I can’t wait to see them perform, and I hope to see tons of other students there!
That’s all that I have for you for tonight. More to come!
Oh! I guess I do have one more thing. For all of you fans of The Collegian, the student-run newspaper at UIU, you can look forward to seeing us online this year! Over the next few weeks, I will be working with the rest of our newspaper staff to get things up and running for you all. This means more pictures, more articles, and more updates! I will let you all know when it is up-and-running so you can check it out!
Thanks! Have a good night!
